In "Midnight," Chuck DeHaan has chosen as his subject, the American Quarter Horse. It's a study in conformation that shows both the beauty and the strength of this marvelous breed.

The history of the Quarter Horse makes fascinating reading for not only horse lovers, but for history lovers as well. Legends and stories abound about the horse and its relationship to English colonists, Spanish conquistadors, Native Americans, cowboys, vaqueros and pioneers. From the East Coast to the West, the history of the Quarter Horse is intertwined with the history of the West.

Quarter Horses are muscular animals, generally large in the chest, forearm, loin and thighs. They have heavy layers of muscle not usually found on any other breed in the same proportion. They are built for short bursts of speed. Chuck is presenting "Midnight" to show the outstanding attributes of this breed. Here we have a stallion whose color is really a seal brown. Posed in the fog, the horse creates a magnificent image that will have appeal not only for the Quarter Horse enthusiast, but for horse lovers everywhere.
